Sainsbury Centre wins Sandford Award

The Sainsbury Centre's popular education programme has been awarded the prestigious Sandford Award which recognises excellence in heritage education.

The Sandford Award is an independently judged, quality assured assessment of education programmes at heritage sites, museums, archives and collections across the British Isles, managed by the Heritage Education Trust in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University. The annual awards provide an independent quality assurance to historic properties and collections which run education programmes.

SCVA deputy director and head of education & research Dr Veronica Sekules, and members of the Sainsbury Centre, collected the award at a presentation evening at the National Gallery, London.

The Education and Public Programme at the Sainsbury Centre sees over 15,000 visits by schools and young people per year. Underpinned by the concept of world art and the Lisa and Robert Sainsbury Collection, the programme aims to teach greater knowledge and understanding of objects, stimulate reflection, imagination and creativity whilst also inspiring making, research and thinking.
