The Sainsbury Centre, in partnership with Norfolk & Norwich Festival, is bringing together an exhibition of video installations by internationally recognised artist Bill Viola, to be shown at venues around the city.

Bill Viola has been instrumental in the establishment of video as an essential medium of contemporary art practice. His work looks at the universal human experiences of birth, death and the unfolding of consciousness, creating total environments with sound and visuals that surround the viewer. With roots in both eastern and western art, it takes inspiration from spiritual traditions including Zen Buddhism, Sufism and Christian mysticism.

The video installations, which have never before been shown in East Anglia, will be exhibitied in a selection of venues including the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and the Undercroft at City Hall.
